Boron Nitride based Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors chips (MLC3s)
for High-Energy Density Storage

Technology Overview

Researchers have developed new multilayer ceramic capacitor chips. The capacitors exhibit improvements over current technologies. The key advantages of this technology are: (1) high energy density storage (2) high breakdown voltage (3) high frequency capabilities (4) low loss (5) high specific energy (6) high temperature applications and (7) electrode miniaturization along with high layer count construction that contribute to higher ripple current capabilities. The potential market for this invention includes semiconductor industries, military and space applications. MLC3s are well suited for pulse power applications such as ignition systems, lasers, x-ray generation, power supplies, electric vehicles, solar-powered equipment and physics research. Constituent elements of a prototype have been tested for this technology.
