HARC licenses cutting-edge technology to wood products industry
in New Zealand and Australia
(August 6, 2003 - THE WOODLANDS, TX) HARCwood, an engineered
wood product developed by researchers at the Houston Advanced
Research Center (HARC), was recognized with the top prize for
Innovative Technology in the Wood Treatment Processing category
at the 2003 Association of Woodworking and Furnishings Suppliers®
(AWFS®) Fair held July 31 - August 3 at the Anaheim convention
center.
HARC was one of 13 companies recognized in four categories --
innovative technology, ergonomics, productivity and safety --
at the 2003 AWFS® Fair Awards reception Saturday evening,
August 2.
The Association of Woodworking and Furnishings Suppliers®
(AWFS®) is the largest national trade association in the
United States representing companies that supply the home and
commercial wood and furnishings industries.
HARCwood, recently licensed to Wilton Enterprises Limited
of New Zealand, enhances the properties of medium density fiberboard
(MDF) and offers a number of benefits, among them moisture resistance,
increased durability, and good paint adherence. In addition,
it has excellent fire retardant characteristics. Applications
range from building materials to marine applications.
