Heat-Stable Surface Modifying Agents

New repellant materials for use as nanoscale coatings have been developed. These nanoscale Teflon-like coatings can be used to tailor the properties (e.g. wetting, adhesion, and friction) of both metallic and non-metallic surfaces for applications ranging from microelectronics devices to biomedical implants. These materials are related to other surface modifying agents developed in our laboratories that are currently the subject of a pending US patent application and a pending PCT application. The new agents provide enhanced stability to the coatings at temperatures as high as 200 degrees Celsius.
